RENO BALLOON RACE
The Reno Balloon Race is one of the best events for viewing hot air balloons. Reno has mountains to the west and mountains to the east. The balloons do not fly more than a mile or so from the launch field. The event is the weekend after Labor Day. The balloons launch only in the morning. It is not a morning and evening event. Before sunrise there is a glow set to music. The five balloons or so launch into the night sky. You have the rest of the day to nap or explore Virginia City, Lake Tahoe, or Truckee. Yosemite is a long drive from Reno. With an early start and a very late return it can be done in a day if no lodging is available at Yosemite. The next weekend is the Reno Air Races. The pre-race preparation can be observed. See the post as to Reno Air Races herein.
