YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK

There is only one entrance to the valley of Yosemite National Park even if you drive in after visiting Mono Lake. The drive in from the east gives a different take on what this park is. Of course, the valley is the ionic part of this park. If you only explore the valley, you missed other parts of park.

Mono Lake when driving south from Reno.
Just after the entrance gate when coming from the east is this lake. Note the elevation on
the sign.
Lake Ellery.

Views of Yosemite in March

The following images were taken by a film camera and are not as detailed as the digital images. Since these pictures were taken in March after a major snow storm, snow remained where the sun did not shine. All of the waterfalls were awesome. Besides falling water, there was snow and ice falling off of Half Dome. The sound was similar to thunder. This was a constant sound during the visit. In hiking up the trail besides Yosemite Falls, the snow was very deep where the first fall from the top ends. Tennis and running shoes were inappropriate.

Looking into the valley.
Another view into the valley.
This clearly shows the depth of the valley.
The lake near the foot of Half Dome.
Same lake with a more north view.
When the weather is warm, this would be a nice swimming hole.
Better framing of the falls.
There was snow.
Looking down in the valley from the trail up Yosemite Falls.
A view more down rather than across.

MUIR WOODS

If you arrived in San Francisco for your visit to Yosemite National Park, you should cross the Golden Gate bridge to visit Muir Woods.  This is a small park that does not have difficult trails.

ENTERING MUIR WOODS,

FOG AND ALL.
